November SCWA Meeting

Like narrators who are untrustworthy? Or who tell stories from their own unique or questionable perspective? Thriller, horror writer Lee Matthew Goldberg talks about creating believable, authentic characters readers will love—and how to write them.

Lee Matthew Goldberg is the author of eight novels including The Ancestor and The Mentor, currently in development as a film off his original script, and the YA series Runaway Train. He has been published in multiple languages and nominated for the Prix du Polar. Stalker Stalked will be out in Fall ’21.

Dennis' short fiction has appeared in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, The Strand and elsewhere and he provides articles and reviews for the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Lancet, and many others.

Dennis currently writes the "Hollywood on the Couch" column for the Psychology Today website, and his work helping writers has been profiled in the New York Times, Premiere magazine, Fade InAngeleno GQ, the Los Angeles Times and other publications, as well as on NPR and CNN. He's also appeared numerous times on Between the Lines, the PBS author interview show.

After graduating with an MFA from the New School, his writing has also appeared as a contributor in Pipeline Artists, LitHub, The Los Angeles Review of Books, The Millions, Vol. 1 Brooklyn, LitReactor, The Big Idea, Monkeybicycle, Fiction Writers Review, Cagibi, Necessary Fiction, Hypertext, If My Book, Past Ten, the anthology Dirty Boulevard, The Montreal Review, The Adirondack Review, The New Plains Review, Underwood Press and others.

His pilots and screenplays have been finalists in Script Pipeline, Book Pipeline, Stage 32, We Screenplay, the New York Screenplay, Screencraft, and the Hollywood Screenplay contests. Every Wednesday at 10:00 AM PDT, SCWA turns our Facebook page over to a different author. Guests have 5-7 minutes to introduce themselves, their work, and share a quick writing tip or two. So take a break, grab a cup of coffee, and enjoy—as SCWA’s Hump Day Book Tour proudly presents author Glen Erik Hamilton.

Glen Erik Hamilton’s debut novel PAST CRIMES won the Anthony, Macavity, and Strand Magazine Critics Awards, and was also nominated for the Edgar®, Barry, and Nero Awards. His next three books earned starred reviews from Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, and more.

Glen grew up aboard a sailboat in Seattle, Washington. He served as President of the Southern California chapter of Mystery Writers of America from 2018-2019 and is also a member of International Thriller Writers and Sisters in Crime. He lives near Los Angeles with his family and openly acknowledges his addiction to Columbo.
