A successful screenplay writer, Joe eventually ran out of patience and enthusiasm, left the profession, and began writing novels. His IQ novels featuring, Isaiah Quintabe, have won the Shamus Award for Best First Private Eye Novel, as well as the Macavity and Anthony Awards for Best First Novel. TV rights to his IQ books were snapped up in a seven-way bidding war by American film production company Alcon, and Rapper Snoop Dogg is currently producing the TV adaptation of the IQ detective series.
